APPS TO MANAGE MENTAL HEALTH

In this day and age, there is an app for just about anything. While there are more traditional routes for therapy and counseling, apps are a great way to build up protective factors, things that can promote resilience and give better protection from experiencing mental health challenges, and a mental health toolkit.

Some important protective factors such as stress management, routine building, and coping skills can be developed with the help of apps! Take a look at these apps, and if any speak to you, add them to your mental health toolkit and implement them in your daily life.

Apps for Stress Management & Meditation: Stress is a normal part of life, especially when it comes and goes quickly. When stress becomes chronic, however, it can wreak havoc on our physical and mental health. When we are most stressed, it can feel impossible to relax, but there are tools at our fingertips that can help regulate those emotions.

Meditation apps are excellent for regulating our breath and clearing our mind of the things that are making us stressed. Check out some recommendations below and think of making meditation a regular part of your routine to combat stress!

Below are a few apps that can help you track your habits and encourage the implementation of healthy habits!

How to cope with anxiety | Olivia Remes | TEDxUHasselt

Anxiety is one of most prevalent mental health disorders, with 1 out of 14 people around the world being likely affected. Leading up to conditions such as depression, increased risk for suicide, disability and requirement of high health services, very few people who often need treatment actually receive it. In her talk “How to cope with anxiety”, Olivia Remes of the University of Cambridge will share her vision on anxiety and will unravel ways to treat and manage this health disorder. Arguing that treatments such as psychotherapy and medication exist and often result in poor outcome and high rates of relapses, she will emphasise the importance of harnessing strength in ourselves as we modify our problem-coping mechanisms. Olivia will stress that by allowing ourselves to believe that what happens in life is comprehensive, meaningful, and manageable, one can significantly improve their risk of developing anxiety disorders.
